Santa Rosalita to Mulege, 256 miles

We fell asleep to the full moon and woke up to the sunrise. I slept pretty good and we were lucky enough to not have anyone disturb us through the night; all of our stuff was still there waiting for us. After seeing where we were camping in the daylight, it was quite a nice little spot right on the beach. Mike found a whale skeleton and attempted to do some ‘archeology’ work…but sooner than later we were packing up our gear and heading off to the Gulf side of Baja. The ride today although scenic, was nothing like yesterday and we had quite a few stretches of road with not much around us. The road quality did seem to get a little worse today as there were several spots in the road where it was just dirt and rock; thank god for our bash plate! After finishing our stretch of road w/out gas we landed a gas station just in time. Not only that but a little shack with a salty old Mexican woman claiming she makes the best Tamales in Baja. A bold statement which everyone had to see for themselves; they all enjoyed their tamales. I haven’t been diving into the roadside eating just quite yet, but so far it look like Mexico has proven both Mike and I wrong; there is some amazing food down here!

As soon as we cut across Baja towards Santa Rosalia it got warm, greener and then hot. By the time we reached the beach side town it was 95 degrees out; much different than the cool 70’s we were having on the other side of Baja. We rode about an hour further than Santa Rosalia (which at the gas station both Keith and Michael had the attended attempting to rip them off) to Mulege. We are in a hotel tonight; phew! I finally got to rinse myself off and am not enjoying the cool A/C in our room while I write this journal. The plan is to walk around town, find internet and grab some cervezas and comida! We could have camped among one of the several nice campgrounds here although opted for more comfort as yesterday was roadside.
