Bahia Concepcion to La Paz, 340miles

El Guapo rides! I told amie and I told him, I’d be surprised to see him, and I would be surprised if I didn’t see him. I was shocked however to find that he did the Banjercito shuffle for the temporary vehicle import permit documentation. Way to go Guapo.

Lets take today from the top. Woke up feeling much better. MUCH better. We headed out past some lovely landscape towards La Paz. I feel like we’re rushing, but I guess its good because we’ve been to mexico a couple times already, and it is the most accessible place to return to. Anyway, we goofed around looking for a place to have lunch in Ciudad Constitucion with no luck. After four stops, we decided on a spot that looked busy and up to Amie’s standard. Turned out to be a ceviche restaurant; no one felt like ceviche. We had cokes and hit the road.

Frustrated with our inability to find lunch I neglected to note my half tank of gas and the fact that we were about to hit our second longest stretch of no gas. Needless to say, we rand dry about 30 miles short of La Paz. Thanks to Keith, we made it to town, just barely by siphoning ½ a gallon from “Chica Grande” (his KLR).

After filling up, we pulled into La Paz. Just before entering town I saw a lone rider, dressed in black heading towards us. Yes, it was El Guapo. Amazingly lucky.

We got our tickets to Mazatlan for manana: $70 a person, plus $40 for a cabin, plus $120 for the moto. OUCH. Keith’s “La Perla” Resort is not in the budget. Unfortunately for Amie and I, Pension California was. A total dump, we had to pitch our tent inside to keep the roaches off us. The good news is it was right around the corner from La Perla and only 200 pesos ($18). Budget check!

We reconvened with Team Baja at La Perla restaurant where Keith was kind enough to treat us to multiple rounds of “Damiana” margaritas (spelling?). Feel very tipsy we flapped around in the pool ‘til about 10pm, then headed back to our dreary cell at Pension California.

Tomorrow we say good bye to our trusty riding buddies Michael and Keith. Its been great fun riding with them.

El Guapo Negro: The man in black. Nearly legendary at this point.

Sorry, we don't like ceviche.

We're stilllll together

This post is brought to you by Keith Wahl: Keith, thanks for the sage mechanical advice and the damiana margaritas! Have a safe ride home!
