For me, the ferry ride went by quickly.
It must have been those ultra drowsy Bonine (sea-sickness) drugs that I took; they definitely did the trick for a quick and painless ride.
I literally slept in the cabin the whole way.
We arrived in Mazatlan about 9am. From the ferry port Mazatlan just looked like a dumpy and hot Mexican town. Yes, hot, very hot and humid. We packed up the bikes quickly and speed off out of town. We didn’t stop to see anything but the closest gas station. From Mazatlan the roads are definitely different than the terrain that we got used to in Baja; a lot more humid and green here. The roads were quite windy and a ton more trucks, which means a bit more intense and stressful driving. We passed through some pretty cool little towns along our way to Sayulita. The type of towns where you drive through the middle of town along the highway, people peering out of their houses just to watch you pass by. We got quite a few waves from the locals here. Even the road construction men always seem to give you a good wave; very nice.
Mike and Adam stopped for a Coco on the side of the road from a very ‘jolly’ lady who after Mike finished his Coco juice made a nice little coconut ‘salad’ which consisted of macheting the coconut in half, scooping the insides and pouring lime juice and salt on top. Yummy? I don’t know…I didn’t try.
We made it into Sayulita around 5pm. We were all very exhausted even though we only drove 265 miles today. Maybe it was the ferry ride the night before? Maybe it’s the worse road conditions on Mainland Mexico. As we pulled into Sayulita I realized that Mike and I have been here before, on our trip we took to Puerta Vallarta, we took a bus out here. I didn’t remember it being as nice as it seems today. We are camping right on the beach at a little campground. Outdoor showers, but still fairly clean and there was a nice bar serving cold cervezas right on the lot. I think we will stay here another day just to let ourselves relax a bit, do some laundry and get on the internet. Sayulita is a little surf town with trendy little taco stands and bars. You see a lot of Gringos that look like they have been washed up by the sea…I mean who have made this their home at least for some time. Lots of white dreads. I think that is the part that turned Mike and I off of this place before… but we can’t complain now with a great campground and decent food options.

I need to stop reading your blog at work. I'm starting to only eat mexican food and drink Pacifico's. This bud's for you.
