Sayulita to Tecoman, 260 Miles
The terrain has definitely changed to more lush jungle. Everything is green and freshly watered. Especially after the big lightning and thunder (followed by rain) show we had last night in our tent. It was Mike, me and a stinkin’ mouse that kept crawling on top of our tent and sliding down the side (I think he was after my coconut muffin) under our tent in the warm rain last night. I’m not sure if it is always so wet around this region, but I’m guessing the recent hurricane took part in the many marshy looking grounds. We saw some Algarve (tequila) fields, coconut and banana plantations, but for the most part not too exciting. It sprinkled a bit throughout the day, but I didn’t mind as it seemed to keep everything just a little cooler.
The roads were a little confusing today. For example there were 2 Colima towns within about a 1 square inch on the map; one was north and the other east. Confusing but after some looping around and talking to some cowboy Mexican workers…we found our way to Tecoman. We only planned on passing through but after spotting a Farmacia in hopes to buy Cloroquine (anti-malaria) as well as a taco stand we got our bellies full and got our drugs. We figured another couple hours down the road until we could spot a nice little hotel but that all changed as we were driving out and into a GIANT dark sky of rain clouds. Before we knew it, it was pouring on us and we were turning around; back to Tecoman. The rain just followed us into town. When it rained hard on our first day of the trip it wasn’t bad as we were moving pretty quick, but when you are waiting through Mexican cobblestone roads and stop lights, you get pretty drenched. The first motel we stopped at ‘The Pines’ was an interesting, almost Arabic Palace looking motel. I thought it was shut down, but it was actually a “pulsa butone” or sex motel.
Dirty dogs; they keep it all secret at these hotels. You pull your car in to a little drive up window, then park it under covered garage for your 12 hours of whatever. Actually is one of the cleanest ‘looking’ motels we’ve stayed in. I didn’t mind as long as I could pitch my tent on the bed. The fun part is they went with an Arabic theme inside… all the necessities including a toilet paper roll right next to the bed; industrial size – eww! The plus is the bike is ‘garaged’, I got to have a really long shower and we have the AC CRANKED up and it feels GREAT. It’s been so hot and humid I forgot how it was to feel alive and not lethargic!
The further south we go, the more the people look at us; whether in smiles or stares. I think it is because they aren’t as used to seeing gringos in their town. There seems to be a lot more fascination with us rolling through town. I’ve noticed even some circle around the block a couple of times just to take another look. Pretend to be doing something near us or the bikes, just to take a peak. We had a couple of younger boys actually ask us where we are from in admiration and interest.
Viva la Mexico!
Miles of palms and banana trees today

Hope all is well with you kids.
Ahh I remember that sex hotel well . . . Great to read about your adventures, it's fun relating it to what Hayley and I were doing on a particular day. Cheers. More soon.
